Frequently asked questions

How do I sign in?
Use “Continue with Google” or create an account with your email and a password. Either way you stay signed in on that device until you sign out.
What is the secret answer?
The first time you sign in, the app asks for a word or phrase found in the Introduction chapter of the book. It confirms you are a reader. You have five tries per hour, and capitalisation and punctuation do not matter. Once accepted, you are never asked again.
How do I write my answers?
Open a chapter from the list. Under each question is a box for your answer. Write as much or as little as you like. Your text is saved automatically about three seconds after you stop typing, and again whenever you leave the box or the page. Look for “Saved ✓” beside the box.
Can I change an answer later?
Yes. Come back to any chapter and edit the box. The book invites you to return in a month, and again in a year.
What if I lose my connection while writing?
A copy is kept on your device as you type and sent to the server as soon as you are back online. You will see “Offline” beside the box until then.
How do I change my password, email or city?
Open Account from the top menu. You can edit your name and location, change your email (we send a verification link), and set a new password. If you signed up with Google you do not have a password; use “Forgot your password?” on the sign-in page if you ever want one.
How do I change my newsletter or new-release choices?
On the Account page, tick or untick the two email options. Every marketing email also has an unsubscribe link. Changes take effect immediately.
How do I export my journal?
On the Account page, choose “Download JSON”. The file contains every answer with its chapter, question and dates.
How do I delete my account?
On the Account page, choose “Delete my account”. It opens the contact form with your details filled in. We permanently delete your account and all journal entries within 30 days and confirm by email. Export first if you want to keep your writing.
Who can read my journal?
Only you. Entries are locked to your account in the database. Administrators can see account details such as name, email and location to run the service, but have no way to read journal text.

Use the Contact page, or email contact@dhurm.net. Questions for the author are welcome too, limited to one per month so that every reader gets a turn.
